Have you ever observed kids making friends?

A child goes up to another child and say, “want to play?” Or my favorite was “want to be best friends?”

It reminds me of the movie Stepbrothers, when they go through this routine of befriending each other.

Its so magnificent. Ive watched my kids do this for years. The first has outgrown it now and now she’s more like a hunter stalking her prey before she decides to pounce and initiate friendship.

When she was little, she was Not shy and would approach any kid of the playground and ask to be friends. Then she would grab their hand and theyd walk to the play-set together swinging their arms, so proudly. It was the most heartwarming thing i had ever seen and we had the joy of witnessing it regularly.

To an adult she made friendship light. And that friend may have served their purpose to her in the 20 minutes at the playground. We didn’t stay in touch, or even see people twice, but her interactions and genuine kindness to others has always resonated with me. Both children had their needs met, enjoyed themselves and then moved on as the time presented itself. It was beautiful.

What if, as adults, we lived our lives more in the fleeting moments?

I wonder how much sweeter and simpler life would be?…..
